Coleman signed with the Chiefs on Wednesday, Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star reports.

Analysis: Coleman was expected to sign with the Chiefs on Tuesday, and did. He will reunite with his former Eagles coach Andy Reid in Kansas City, where he will add some experience to a young secondary. Coleman may also compete with Husain Abdullah for playing time alongside Eric Berry.

Mays (wrist) was placed on injured reserve/designated-to-return Tuesday, Randy Covitz of the Kansas City Star reports.

Analysis: Mays was expected to start at inside linebacker this season, but the latest injury will keep him out of that spot for at least a portion of the season. James-Michael Johnson and Josh Mauga are the likely beneficiaries of the playing time voided by Mays' injury.

Despite a report from the Denver Post on Tuesday stating that the Broncos are preparing as if Welker will play Week 1, the suspension for testing positive for amphetamines has been finalized and will take effect immediately, forcing him to miss the first four games of the season, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.

Analysis: The report from the Post's Mike Klis stated that the Broncos do not expect to be without Welker for the Week 1 matchup against Indianapolis, but as expected, there doesn't seem to be any validity to this stance by the team, as other reporters were quick to cite their own reports that shot down any notion that Welker would play Sunday. This is probably for the best, as Welker was still recovering from a concussion and should be able to return closer to full health following his suspension.

Johnson will compete with Jordan Todman for the third running back spot behind Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson.

Analysis: The Jaguars announced Tuesday that Robinson will open the season as the primary backup to Gerhart. Johnson had an outside chance to grab the No. 2 spot in camp, but the rookie will instead be relegated to a minor role as the likely fourth back.

The Jaguars announces Tuesday that Robinson will open the season as the backup to Toby Gerhart at running back.

Analysis: The second-year back out of Michigan, who played quarterback in college, rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries during the preseason. He also caught two passes for 24 yards. While Jordan Todman may be the better true running back, Robinson is quicker and more versatile, so offensive coordinator Jedd Fisch should be able to utilize him in some creative packages.
